# Function: compareLayer()
> **compareLayer**(`a`, `b`): `SortOrder`
A comparator function for sorting elements in the surface.
SortOrder.AFTER means a should be rendered after b and so on.
## Parameters
### a
`GfxModel` | `GfxLocalElementModel`
### b
`GfxModel` | `GfxLocalElementModel`
## Returns
`SortOrder`
